Running biomechanical analysis for runners at Clínica FIMED

A running analysis for runners

At FIMED we carry out a running biomechanical analysis in which we study your footstrike, your technique and how your body behaves while you run.

We don’t only analyse the foot. We observe movement globally to understand how foot, ankle, knee and hip work during the run, and relate it to your discomfort, injury history, training and goals.

Our goal isn’t simply to tell you how you run, but to help you keep running.

What we analyse

Four assessment blocks

🏃

Running technique

We analyse how you run: your footstrike, cadence, stride and the different phases of your run.

🦶

Footstrike and support

We assess how the foot behaves while running and how you distribute the loads during support.

🦵

Global movement

We don’t stop at the foot: we observe ankle, knee and hip and how they relate during the run.

👟

Footwear

We review your usual shoes and assess whether they suit you, your running style and your training.

When to consider it

When to have a running analysis?

If you have discomfort when running

Recurring pain in the foot, plantar fascia, Achilles tendon, shin, knee or hip can be a good reason to study your running.

If you’re preparing a new challenge

Your first 10K? A half marathon? A marathon? When kilometres and intensity increase, knowing how you run helps make better decisions.

If you’re returning after an injury

We assess your running during the return to sport and detect aspects to work on before increasing the load further.

If you have doubts about your shoes

There’s no perfect shoe for everyone. We analyse your footwear and advise you according to your running, needs and goals.

Podiatry + Sports physiotherapy

Your running style doesn’t depend only on your feet

If during the study we detect aspects related to strength, mobility, movement control, load management or an injury, we complement the analysis with physiotherapy assessment and therapeutic exercise.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What does a running biomechanical analysis involve?
It’s an assessment where we analyse how your body behaves while running. We observe the footstrike and the movement of foot, ankle, knee and hip, plus your running technique, and relate it to your history, your discomfort and your training.
Do I need an injury to have a study done?
No. You can have it done even without pain. It’s also useful if you’re increasing kilometres, preparing a race, starting to run or simply want to know how you move.
Does the study help prevent injuries?
It lets us identify features of your movement and detect aspects to work on. Even so, runner injuries are multifactorial: training, recovery, strength, rest or previous injuries also play a part.
Does having a study mean I’ll need insoles?
No. A biomechanical study isn’t synonymous with insoles. For some people they may be indicated; for others it’ll be more useful to work on strength, adjust training or review footwear.
Which shoes should I bring?
Ideally bring the shoes you usually run in, so we can assess their features and relate them to your running style.
Can I have it done if I’m just starting to run?
Yes. You don’t need to be an experienced runner: the analysis can be done both for those starting out and for regular or long-distance runners.
What if you find something I should work on?
At FIMED we combine podiatry and sports physiotherapy. If we find aspects of strength, mobility, movement control or an injury, we propose specific exercise and physiotherapy work.
